Staying Motivated to Lose Weight: 7 Weight Loss Motivation Tips

Your attitude about losing weight is the difference between diet success and failure. Exercise and proper diet may be required to get that slim waist you’ve always wanted, but your attitude about getting there plays a big role too.  Follow these 7 weight loss motivation tips to help keep you motivated on your journey.

1) Write Down Your Reasons for Wanting to Lose Weight

What goals are helping you stay motivated to lose weightt? Why do you REALLY want to lose weight? What are your motivations for wanting to improve yourself? Is it because you want to reduce your risk of health problems later in life? Do you want to be able to play with your kids without getting tired? Write down why you want to lose weight and revisit these goals and motivations every week.

2) Set Goals Beyond the Scale

Staying motivated on a diet involves you setting other goals that go beyond, “I want to lose 10 pounds.”

Set goals to work out 3 times a week, or to eat more fruits and vegetables. Our health goals don’t all need to be based on what we see on the scale. It’s easy to get distracted by the number of pounds you’ve lost, but there are so many other benefits to being healthy that you don’t see on the scale.

3) Use Your Smartphone

weight loss motivationThere are so many diet plans and programs available right at your fingertips to help keep you motivated.

Use any of them to stay motivated to lose weight.

I recently developed a diet program with tons of tips and diet hacks for you to stay on track on your diet.

Included with my done for you diet program “The 17 Day Diet Body Breakthrough” is an online system that you can use on the go to help track your eating habits, exercise habits and much more.

4) Surround Yourself With Health

Make an effort to keep your refrigerator stocked with healthy foods. Surround yourself with them.  Keep a bowl of fruit on your counter. Don’t let your clothes pile up on your workout equipment. Keep your running shoes right at the door.

5) Don’t Be a Perfectionist

weight loss motivationNobody is perfect. Sometimes we eat more than we wanted. We might eat a slice of pie at dinner or a bowl of ice cream. It’s ok. Whatever we choose to indulge in, don’t be too hard on yourself.

This can ruin your motivation. Think about what it was that caused you to lose focus, next time you can fix it.

Our diets are all about learning and becoming healthier in the long run.

6) Be Patient

Everyone is nervous about that dreaded “weight loss plateau.” There may be some days when the pounds don’t come off as fast as you want it can be hurt your motivations to keep going. Be patient. Things are definitely happening in your body that might not show up on a scale.

If you do hit a plateau, change things up. Trick your metabolism into getting back into action. The 17 Day Diet uses a fast day of drinking some great smoothies that you can use, but there are tons of ways you can get it done.

7) Recommit Yourself Every New Week

Each new week, renew your commitment to yourself and your new incredible body. Do this, and you’ll control your eating week by week, with a strategy that’ll guarantee success.

The scale is actually showing slight gains! I follow the program diligently and often find myself not eating enough at times. I am not that hungry and not forcing myself to eat. What’s going on and how do I kick start weight loss again. I need something specific I can try. I am getting frustrated at this point. Thank you.

  7. Thanks dr mike for sharing this weight loss advices.I think its important to be patient bc the pounds don’t come off as fast as i want it to or in a day.

  8. I completed my first 17 days and lost a total of 13 lbs. the last 2 days of the cycle and the first 5 days of the Activate cycle I have not lost any weight. The scale is actually showing slight gains! I follow the program diligently and often find myself not eating enough at times. I am not that hungry and not forcing myself to eat. 9. What a great article you have written!
Actually all of us always think about our food or any other medicine that we lose weight quickly, but none of us don’t set our mind and we are not very confident about our weight loss. This weight loss tips will definitely help to set the mind and go on. Thanks

  10. Hi Dr. Mike, I agree with your first tip about writing down the real reason why we want to lose weight. One of my biggest motivators is to stay healthy and “strong to the end”. I want to be in a fit shape from now and until I am an old senior citizen! It’s easy to put off dieting and working out until you are older and start to experience problems with your body. Thanks for the tips!

  11. Thanks for great article, many people are searching for perfect weight loss program, but they overlook the most important factor – motivation, the truth is that they can take an average one and get amazing results with self-discipline or they can choose the best one and see no results beacuse of lack of motivation! Thanks

  12. Hello Dr. Mike,
This is s informative article and thanks for sharing it with us. Your tips are very effective and I hope these great tips will surely useful for me.
    Love this article 🙂

  13. I am a 21 year old guy and i have got over 90 kg weight on my body its really embarrassing and i am looking for any product which can help me to remove this fat.

  14. I like that you talked about having healthy foods in the fridge. If the only thing you have access to is healthy foods, then that will be the only thing you eat. If you’re at work, it would probably be a good idea to stock up on healthy snacks so you don’t end up at the vending machine all the time.

  15. Losing weight is a very hard thing to do, well at least in my experience. I think that because it is hard to keep yourself motivated and stick to the same plan for long periods of time. I think I will take your advice and the next time I do a diet I will make sure I use my smartphone to keep track of my progress.

  16. Hi,

  17. valuable tips. I think most of the people are looking for weight loss
tips who are suffering in obesity. Thanks for your Weight Loss Motivation Tips that gives people really motivated to lose their weight. I really liked your 7 steps for weight loss which are really effective.

  18. When it comes to losing weight or maintaining your current weight, there are no forbidden foods. Anything can be consumed in moderation. You simply need to make sure that you don’t over consume calories. There are a few programs out there that can show you exactly how to do that.

  19. I like the suggestion to write down your reasons for wanting to lose weight. The process of losing weight relies a lot on the emotions that come with losing weight. Many people gain weight because they get bored or because of emotional pain. For me, listing out the reasons for losing weight gave me a goal and a cause for getting healthy.

  20. I like that you point out to be patient when trying to lose weight. I know that my parents get frustrated when they go to the gym for a couple weeks straight and don’t have any results. I’ll have to make sure they know that being consistent is the best thing they can do.

  21. I agree about the point that being patient is important as people who are impatient normally end up doing these crash diets and end up putting all the weight back on.

  22. 8. It is better to rely on a healthy weight loss option which will provide lifetime results. You have to set realistic goals and not expect to lose a lot of pounds in a short span of time

  23. I’m trying to lose weight, but I’m having a hard time staying motivated. It makes sense that I would want to write down my reasons that I want to lose weight! That way I won’t ever lose track of my goal.

  24. I think staying motivated to lose weight is the hardest part. I like how you said that you shouldn’t be a perfectionist. I am hard on myself, but it makes sense that everyone makes mistakes.

  25. thank you dr mike

  27. Wonderful tips. Really it is a boring to me do exercise with my indoor spin bike. Some time I feel unbearable to do exercise every morning to loose my weight. But thanks for your motivational tips. 🙂

  28. I have to say that #5 was probably the hardest for me. If I ate something I know I shouldn’t have, I’d punish myself with extra exercises or skip meals. But after 18 months of trial and error, I finally was able to figure it out. Eating healthy is the most important when it comes to losing weight. Exercise comes next. I still enjoy most of the foods I did before or I find healthier alternatives…except bacon. There’s no alternative for that!!

  29. Great tips! I think losing weight is the most difficult task in the world because I have personally never could start to exercise. In my opinion Walking in every opportunity to exercise is the best way.

  30. Thanks for the tips for losing weight. I have been struggling with my weight for a while, so I am looking for any tips I can get. I like that you mentioned to make sure you keep a bowl of fruit on your counter so you are in a healthier environment. I will be sure to do this.

  31. Hi Dr. Mike, I appreciate your insight. I especially agree that we should know our reasons for losing weight. If we don’t have a clear reason or aren’t doing it for ourselves, we’ll probably fail. I appreciate how you recommend to write down these reasons. As someone who’s always struggled with losing weight, your advice is a breath of fresh air.

  32. Great article Mike! Motivation is super important when it comes to losing weight and keeping up a healthy lifestyle! These tips will definitely help anyone looking to do that.

I think the most important tip that you hit on is not to be a perfectionist. Fitness is an on going thing, one off day or one missed day does not ruin all the work you’ve done up to that point. Keep going and never give up! You get unlimited mulligans!

    Cheers!

  33. Great article as usual dr mike! This is motivating me to get back into tip top shape again. Having goals is always important for weight loss. And having patience too.
