Stress Management: 3 Ways to Reduce Stress for a Healthy Life

A key element to boosting the health of your entire body is learning how to take control of your stress levels and how much stress you’re allowing your body to feel. Below, I’ve listed some easy and effective ways for you to de-stress your body and you can use any of them to manage stress on a daily basis.

Know Your Stress Level

Constantly ask yourself throughout the day where you are on a scale of one to 10 in terms of stress. One is calm, relaxed, but alert; 10 is when you’re feeling majorly stressed and can’t seem to focus. If you rate your stress level within the range of six to 10 a lot of the time, it’s time for some serious changes.

Make a List

The act of writing things down the things that are stressing you out can be helpful. Start by taking a piece of paper and creating a two-column list, with everything that is stressing you out in the left column. When you have the whole stress list done, start on the right column, which is a list of possible solutions. Even if you can’t come up with a realistic solution for every single thing that stresses you out immediately, keep this list with you at all times so that when you think of a solution, you can add it right away. You’ll soon find that every little detail causing you stress can be managed, worked out, delegated, or deleted.

Perceive “Movement” Differently

There’s a reason why people suggest exercising to relieve stress. Movement has a special effect on a psychological stress; when you exercise, your brain becomes occupied with maintaining all your functions while you physically exert yourself. Instead of focusing on all of the things that are stressing you out, your brain is focusing on getting oxygen to your heart and muscles. Meaning, your head will feel more “clear”.

Some people might feel as though finding the time to exercise is the thing that is stressing them out, however, if you’re one of them, you can make small efforts to change your perception about exercising. You can gather a group of friends and join a adult sports league or host DVD workouts in your home.

There’s no reason you have to dread exercise. With all the benefits it has to offer, I strongly encourage you to find a way to enjoy 30 minutes of daily movement.

If you can learn the keys to managing stress in your life, you can avoid many health problems along the way and greatly increase your chances of living 100 happy, healthy years.

  1. It may seem that there’s nothing you can do about stress. The bills won’t stop coming, there will never be more hours in the day, and your career and family responsibilities will always be demanding. But you have more control than you might think. In fact, the simple realization that you’re in control of your life is the foundation of stress management. Managing stress is all about taking charge: of your thoughts, emotions, schedule, and the way you deal with problems.^
