When you are trying to lose weight, the most difficult task is to find the right foods to acquire the habit of eating healthy every day. The biggest problem is that junk food always looks so good, while good food usually looks junky. The secret is to find good tasting healthy foods and substitute them for the foods that aren’t so good for your diet.
Why is Junk Food Bad for Your Body?
When we are eating foods that aren’t healthy, we are missing out on a lot of nutrients that our bodies need in order to stay healthy. We need to eat things that come from the four main food groups: meats, dairy, grain and fruits/vegetables. Sadly, a lot of us are not eating nearly enough of these foods, and are instead, eating junk food that can wreak havoc on our diets.
It’s no surprise that junk food is loaded with fat and sugar calories, both of which are not good for anyone who is trying to lose weight. These calories aren’t easy to burn off with exercise, and they contribute to a lot of weight problems. These foods also don’t contain any of the nutrients our bodies need, and they are not part of a healthy diet plan.
Here are some of the foods that I recommend avoiding (note that these are all processed foods):
Potato Chips – Did you know that 10 potato chips have about 100 calories, and that these are mostly fat calories? While we all think that a little bit is okay, most of us don’t just stop at a few potato chips. Try to keep these out of your diet when eating healthy.
Candy – A lot of people think that since most candy doesn’t have a lot of fat calories, it is okay to include it in their diet. What they don’t know, is that candy is loaded with sugar calories, which contain carbohydrates. This ultimately spikes carbohydrate levels and will prevent you from losing weight.
Bagels – While we need to have some whole grains in our diets, we usually tend to eat too many bread products, and not enough of the healthy versions. Many bagels weigh four to five ounces. At 80 calories per ounce, that’s a 320- to 400-caloric hunk of bread. If you find it necessary to add bagels to your diet, stick to small, whole-wheat bagels with 100% whole wheat flour and choose low-fat cream cheese.
